I don't know a thing about tires and was hoping I could get some good advice here.
I'm looking at buying a new set for my 99 4runner. It's my primary vehicle and I have a 35 mile (each way) commute to work every day so they'll need to be road friendly for starters. As far as off-roading, most of my time will spent on the sand dunes. Also need something that handles snow well.
Is there a decent multi-purpose tire that would work well here?
hmm, finding a good tire thats good for normal driving and yet sand.......i know alot of people with toyotas talk about the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's and have great success with them, as far as dunes are concerned, i would think that airing them down they would be fine. snow doesn't seem to be a problem either. I'd also suggest the super swamper trx's, they're made for sand, but not sure how well they hold up to the normal everyday driving. check out www.tirerack.com and see if you can find anything that route.

Matth- your looking at a backspacing problem and just need to get some spacers for your rims, but what size are your current rims? you might need to get wider rims for the 12.50s
Wheel Spacers arent necessarily his solution as they are not legal in all states (however, if they are www.spidertrax.com will help). The "best" solution would be new rims that have less backspacing. You can also put some washers behind your steering stops.
Also, BFG makes their MT in a 33x10.5" size....if neither of the above is a good solution for you.

i know the spacers arent neccesarily the solution to his problem, but if he doesnt want to pay the price for new rims, and wants the 12.50's, thats gonna be the best solution, as yes, state laws are the main thing. you could even go check out local junk yards and try and find some rims there as well. thats where i picked mine up at, 45 bucks a rim, and threw some polish on them and they look great.
i have a 89 pickup 22re and i screwd up.. for some odd resone i had the ignition on while i was doing this. i wanted to put a intake cone on my intake so i remove the box, and put the cone on the end of the intake hose. didnt start. ok i kno why is the mass air sensor so i try to un plug it, the plug woulden pull out so i unscrewed the plug end when i pulled it out something shorted and sparked so i put it back together. looked at th fuse and it melted so i replace it and now it fries all the fuses i put in the efi slot and will crank but not start. this sux
BFG All Terrain T/a.......bad assed goo all around tire...good ride on road and not too loud.... good traction off road.... they aren't swampers but they arent as expensive or as gay on the asphalt..
