Lift kit for a 1990 4x4

I just bought a 1990 4x4 Toyota truck. I have been searching all over and can't find good information of lift kits available for the truck. I found a bunch of earlier stuff and alot of Tacoma stuff but non for the 1990. Is this an odd year for lift kits or have I just not found it yet?

Ouch. $1100 and no shocks. For that much I would rather get the Downey slip yoke with Rancho kit For $900 and then some shocks and springs for the back. I like the idea of gaining more ground clearance along with the lift by not lowering the differential. Has anybody used that Downey slip yoke front end?

What are you goals with this? To fit 33" tires? Larger tires are the only real way to lift the whole truck...that is, to lift the pumpkin.

The standard lift to fit 33s is to crank the tbars a little, lift the rear 1.5 inches (mostly to get rid of any sag), add a 1inch BL from Roger Brown and trim the front fenders a little (very minor, hardly tell). This is very cheap and it keeps the center of gravity down.

Alternatively, you can torch off the IFS and weld on a solid axle.

If you want it more for looks, then sure, go for the bigger bolt on lifts.

I have decided to go with more of a prerunner approach so I not looking for much of a lift anymore. What I really want is more travel. Which is why I was looking at the slip yoke axle shafts from Downey. With the spindle bracket it brings the wheels down farther which raises the truck and differential and gets more clearance in the front, plus it would be capable of more travel with the slipyokes. For the back I guess the only way to get more clearance is taller tires but I only plan on using 31 or 32 inch tires. I am new to all this so I really don't know what to do yet. Maybe I shouldn't lift it at all and just get long travel shock mounts and shocks?

"crank the T-bars"?

I would like to raise my pick-up a little. Its the 4x4 model but it isnt quite as high as some other factory 4x4 toys. Mine only has 3 leafs plus the kicker in the back, whereas my bro's has 4 plus the kicker and they are both factory set-ups. I think his must be the heavy 1/2ton or something although i ve noticed most are setup with the slightly higher suspension.

Anyways, i have picked up 2 extra leafs for each side that i haven't installed yet, so that will raise the sag in the back up plus make the rear a little higher than the front i think.

But what could i do to raise the front up a bit too, without getting into alot of money. What did u mean by "crank the t-bars, and add a 1inche BL"? Body Lift?...but what t-bars?

Thanks for any advice,
BLAKE!

There are adjustment screws on the torsion bars which allow you to change the height of the front suspension. Contrary to popular belief, this does not "preload" the tbars, but that is a different subject. You can raise the front about an inch by this method. Note, the higher one goes, the more likely premature CV boot failure is and the worse the ride gets. You can prevent premature failure by swapping in manual hubs if you don't have them already. If you have manual hubs you can go maybe 1.5" or so.

For the best ride stick with the stock tbars, aftermarket ones will make it way stiff. The only reason to go with aftermarket tbars is if one has a real bullbar and a winch.

BL=body lift.
