Drivers side of the motor, down low. If it is 4wd, I always pull the skid plate off to change my oil.

I just got my 4runner a few months ago so today its time to change my oil...I was looking for a long time for this thing...its not in any of the manuals I have ( they do not make a chiltons/haynes for the 2001 yet)
So I was in the same boat as you....
I do not know if the taco and the runner is the same but mine is really easy if you take the wheel well skirt off on the drivers side...it is right there at arms length.

The skid plate isn't always the easiest thing to take off...
I've had a few instances where i've knocked it against somethin in the woods (of course) and the bolts have many a time been beaten in.

Just my two cents
