Fan Blower just quit?? Help appreciated

I have a 2000 Tacoma 4x4, yesterday the blower just stopped working. The only warning was the fan speed went down a bit then I shut it off and tried to turn it on again. Nothing happened. Does anyone know what the possible cause may be??

i have had the same problem with my '99 taco. The blower motor is located on the passenger side under the glove box, near the door, all i do to mine is give it a good whack with my hand, and it will work for about a month, i belive the problem to be a poor wiring connection in the motor, the whack that you give it helps it to make a better connection. but if you dont want to do that, id suggest replacing it.

Just went thru this myself and have to agree with superjoe. Mine was a little worse though, I had to whack mine with a maglight 4 or 5 times a day, and even then it would only blow at a slow speed. I replaced it finally. There around $130.

You should check it first though, just in case it's not the fan. Pull the fan out, and connect it to a 12 volt power supply (I just ran a couple wires from my car battery and touched them to the + & - connections on the fan). If the fan spins fast and smooth, then the fan is probably okay, and your problem lies elsewhere.

FYI - I had to remove the right lower kick-plate panel to get the fan out. Once you get at it it's only 3 screws and one wire harness.
