Hey everyone, I been finding a lot of info here and figured I'd finally register and this is my first post. I just installed a Powertrax no slip locker in the rear of my Tacoma and I was realizing today that I did not use loctite on the ring gear bolts. I did torque it very well with an impact gun though.
How detrimental is loctite on the ring gear bolts? Will it be fine or do I have to take it apart and add loctite??
Thanks!!

Toyota does use their form of thread locker.. However not as strong as what Loctite makes. It's your truck, so its your call. I think you probably will be ok, but I'd hate to see you bomb your rear end...

hehe, yes, I didn't have a vice handy to hold on to the diff and didn't have leverage to use a torque wrench so I used the impact gun to remove the bolts and boy they were on there very gooood! So I figured it was safe to torque them on with the impact gun.

Those ring gear bolts should be set at a specific torque...they are 70-90 ft-lbs for the rear axle in my jeep.....you might have them set too high. I'd pull and locktite and properly torque as soon as you get the chance.

I believe the it's supposed to be at 54 lbs, doesn't that sound a little low for those bolts? When I was trying to get them off, it took a lot of work with the impact gun to get them off.
I have in fact decided to take it apart and loctite the bolts tommorrow, it's just bothering too much at this point hehe.
Most recommend blue loctite, I was thinking of using red, would that be ok?

I could not find the torque specs anywhere, it's not in my Hayne's manual and nobody could tell me what it is. The only thing I read somewhere online is that it's supposed to be 54lbs but that just seemed low to me.
Anyway, I could not conveniently gain access to a vice to get proper leverage to measure the torque anyway. So again, I had to use the impact wrench being careful not to go overboard. Worst case scenario, it may be a little tighter than recommended but I definitely feel better now.
