Question Crazy 22r Engine Whine

Hi All,
Wondering if anyone has experienced this problem, I've searched around and have found similar, issues (maybe?) but nothing that seems to match up exactly.

Vehicle: 87 Toyota 4x4 standard model, 22R engine, no A/C
There is a high pitched whine/squeal in the high(er) RPM range. For example, it starts at 55 in 5th gear, like clockwork.
Happens in all gears as well as sitting stationary in neutral, back off the throttle and it goes away. Hopefully this rules out the drivetrain.

Belt adjuster was replaced a while back (I remember that to be more of a clacking chatter anyway). Belts appear to be in good shape.

Not quite sure what to make of it, it sounds like some kind of bearing screaming somewhere

Thanks for any help in advance
Warren

I would suspect the water pump or alternator. You might be able to tell by running for a short time with the appropriate belts removed.

Thanks Reb,
I'll try this out over the weekend and post a follow up, if anyone is interested.
