Toyota Pickup Truck Transmission

Hi i was wondering if a manual 5 speed tranny out of a 87 pickup will fit in a 90 model pickup? thanks

Pick up this month's issue of 4wd and Sport Utility Magazine. They have an excellent article on the Toyota transmissions, like which ones are the best (obviously, the Turbo units are due to the massive bearings) but they also list that any transmission (from a 4 cylinder) will go into any truck from '79-'95, with a 20R, 22R or a 22RE engine.

Didn't specify whether 2 or 4WD. If 2wd, there are no issues that I know of for the swap, both should have the same W55. If 4WD there is one: The '87 will have an early W56, the '90 will have a late W56. They use a different t-case and the shifters are in slightly different locations. Other than that, they are interchangable. Then again, if the '90 is a V6, it will have an R150F tranny and entirely different t-case and won't interchange directly with any 4 cylinder trannies (except the R151F turbo tranny).
