22R carb question

Hello! My mother has a 1987 Toyota 4cyl pickup. The carb runs very rich and rough. I can see the choke not wanting to open. I would like to get another carb like the one on the truck, clean it up, and swap it out. Would a carb from a 1985 or 1989 4cyl fit this truck? I am not familiar with these. Thanks in advance! MY

Why don't you just clean the choke and adjust the choke settings. The reason its running rich and rough is because the choke is not opening completely. Once you get the choke clean and adjusted, replace or clean your spark plugs too. That should cure the problem.

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply! My mother lives in a different area, and because of my schedule of late, it's easier for me to work on something, then swap the carb out, than to work on the original. I also had a friend (mechanic) that worked on it with no success. I thought, since there is a carb on Ebay, I could get it, clean it up, and swap it out. Your way is certainly the lesser expensive! Thanks again! Oh .. is a 1985 carb the same? MY

Not sure about the 85, isn't it that the 89s are fuel injection? Sorry, cant help you much there. But if your going to buy a used carb, why get an older model?
