(UPDATE) New Runner owner with a problem and accessories wanted..

So, just got my first Toyota. I love it. It's a '99 4Runner. I am having a problem with the fuel system though. The fuel gauge cuts out randomly. It drops to as far down as it will go and will only reset when I shut the truck off and turn it back on. When I start the truck, it works, sort of, but at some point within a few minutes, whether I'm stopped, turning , braking..whatever...the needle just drops totally down and the flashing low fuel indicator starts flashing. Even then, sometimes it will show a quarter tank, a half tank, cloe to empty regardless of how much fuel is in it. I have had the tank and the sending unit replaced, neither fixed the issue.

Any ideas?

Also, looking for a few items:
1) Gray 4Runner Floor mats
2) small round black dimpled fog light hole cap
3) gray passengers side sun visor
4) black running boards

Any good links and recomendations?

4 Runner problem

when I bought my 1999 4 Runner in 2001 I found the same problem. When I took it back to the dealership they told me that it was a recall on the fuel sender unit. I believe it was located in dash. The replacement was free under warranty but the outcome is that it resets the odometer. They do log your old mileage in the main computer. I hope that helps.

First off, thanks for the TSB...it directed me to replace the circuitry for the odom and the fuel gauge. I replaced the board and it completely solved the problem.

Note: the old board has a scorch mark, literally, where the old board had fried where the diode was that must have controlled the fuel needle accuracy. I'll post a pic of it soon enough.

Thanks again!
