1999 Toyota 4 Runner anti-theft lug nuts

I have just purchased a great used 1999 4Runner with 265-70R16 aluminum mag wheels. Does anyone know where I can purchase anti-theft lug nuts for it? All I can find locally is for steel rims, not the aluminum mags.

Thanks;

Vic

canadian tire should have a pretty wide variety, if not then you could probably order from their "performance/aftermarket accesories" catalog

i'm sure they could get them in for ya

Canadian Tire?

I've hit 4-5 Canadian Tires in the Edmonton area, along with NAPA autoparts. Nobody has anything for aluminum mags. I did get a suggestion to use regular nuts with washers, but I'm not going to risk that!

I got a set off of ebay for $20 for My Tacoma. I think the dealers are only like $30.

Lug Nuts

I finally found someone who knew his stuff. Apparently, McGard makes them, but they can only be supplied through Toyota dealers for Toyota OEM rims.

I'm curious, I never heard of different locks for steel and aluminum rims. What's the difference? I got mine from Toyota but nobody asked me if my rims were aluminum or not...

The steel rim nuts are plain nuts with cone ends that fit tight to the steel rim. The mag nuts are often flat bottom (although not always, my mag nuts are cone botto), but always with a mid-nut flare supporting a large washer that pins the rim to the axle.

Those things are a waste of money. They can easily be taken off with a socket and wrench. If someone is going to steal your wheels, then you've got bigger problems. Save your $$.

I disagree, I think they are very effective. True, if someone really wanted your rims, you can't stop them but with the lock nuts, I'd say it would deter 95% of the average thief because of the extra effort, noise, time that would be involved...

If someone is stealing rims, they already have time involved. These arent something you just walk away with.....

They do deter 95% of theives, because 95% of theives only steal small stuff....

If you really want locking lugs, you might try http://www.summitracing.com. They sell McGard who I believe make the lugs supplied by Toyota OEM.

Myself, I think they're a total waste of $$ and potential grief down the road. You haven't lived until you need to change a tire and discover the the last guy overtightened one of the locking lugs and the key/wrench breaks when you try to remove it...
