Go fast goodies and tricks for a 85-89 4 runner??

I want a 4 runner, and i was wondering if they're easy or practial to upgrade from stock to perform better, and throw your head back in the seat, as i know supra engines are good at bolt on upgrades, but what can you do with the stock 4-cylinder of v6 in an 85-98 4 runner??

I';ve been looking at MR2's, and i want a truck but i also want to have some fun with it and not just offroad, and considering the MR2 has quick accelarion with it's 4 cylinder i thought maybe the 4runner might give a few thrills too with the right stuff...what's possible with the 4runner engine?? Now i am not assuming it could ever come near to handling as well or being as fast, but what can it do??

I think what he means is that with a Toy truck of this era, you have to swap out the engine to a larger one (along with a lot of other associated hardware), or spend a lot of money upgrading the parts on what is considered a low horsepower engine (115 hp, 22re).
It is all about the "tortoise and hare". These years of trucks are reliable, and last for years, but will never be speed demons with a 22re.

You would be suprised what you can do with a few $k! You can make 200hp with no problem! With no turbo or NOS!

Intake
Header
Exhaust
High Flow Cats
Cams
Pulleys
Lightweight Flywheel
Racing Clutch
EFI upgrade
ECU programmed or a Venom Programmer

And you have atleast 200 hp! That is putting most of the stuff yourself if you can't do it look at $3-4k!

That is what I meant 22R no power house, but dump some money into you never know, 3.0 no power house either but a bit more then the 22R. I personaly wouldn't not put money into either one.

I would go with 3.4 vortex, 3.4 toyota, 3.0 straight 6 toyota

find a turbo one then dump 2k into it and it will impress you and climb a tree. or you could stuff a 4.3 chevy motor into it then mod that motor. but either of these options take you away from the well known reliability of the Toy. i only got 209K miles out of my turbo runner before it needed rebuilt.

If you really want power, but it will cost you go with the Supra Twin turbo motor 3.0. Now that thing has some balls! It ain't cheap but stock it will give you 317hp (if I am not mistaken?) Then a few more grand and you can 500 hp easy. Hey, a rocket ship on wheels!
