Horn sounds like a half dead chicken

Ok, so I need some help.

I buy a 1990 4Runner a couple of weeks ago and notice that the horn is pathetic. Here I am in this jacked up big tire mini monster truck, and when I hit the horn all I get is a "meep meep", gawd awful wimpy tweep sound.

So I figure no big problem, the old one's gone to heaven, I'll just put in one of those freeway blaster horns from the local store. Problem is when I install the brand new horn, I get the exact same sound - what's with that?!

I then figured maybe it was the contacts on the ends of the connection wires and changed them. Result? meep meep

How the heck could I get the same sound from a brand new horn? Does anyone have any ideas as to just what might be wrong??

tx,
Dave

In my books, the only way to go is with an aftermarket air horn. I even installed one on my motorcycle...for those deaf idiots that can't hear my pipes and try and cut me off/push me into the ditch. After a good blast on the air horns, I give them a good kick with my "modified" boots. They have a steel plate where the heel used to be....

It's better to burn out than rust away!

Thumbs up

"In my books, the only way to go is with an aftermarket air horn."

I believe that is the way to go too. Plus it is a lot louder and sometimes it scares drivers.

Thanks guys. It's a simple 2 wire hookup so I guess I'll just pull the new horn off and hook it directly to the battery - perhaps I just got a bad one.

thanks again.
