85 Toyota P/U Starting Problems

I have an 85 P/U Xtra Cab with a 22RE engine. The truck hasn't ran in 4 years due to some brake problems.

Finally have the time and money to get the ole girl back on the road. New front brakes (pads, calipers, hoses, etc.), master cylinder, belts and hoses. Fuel tank drained and replaced with fresh gas, fresh oil change and anitfreeze flush and refill. I also replaced the battery.

Now when I turn the igntion key nothing happens. Should I try replacing the starter next or the Selenoid?

Any help is appreciated...

Dave

Run a wire from your battery '+' to the starter solenoid and see if it cranks. Starting/ignition problems seem common but we are talking 20 years old.

Tested the exsisting cable yesterday with a volt meter 12.5 volts, wifey hit the ignition switch, no drop in power.

I'm begining to suspect my after market Code Alarm system that was installed in 88 or 89.

Yup it was the aftermarket alarm system.

All I had to do was remove two wires from the alarm box (Key Starter and Key Motor) and simply connect them. Turn the key and the starter motor activates.

Thanks for the help everyone
