i have a 4 cylinder 99 tacoma and i want to put a 3" suspention lift on it but not sure if i will have to mess with the gear ratio to push the 33's i want on it. If i do have to change the gears what ratio do i go with. oh yea it is 4 wheel drive.
i have the same year with a 3" lift and 33's, and can push them pretty good with my stock 4.10's but to return it close to stock i would go with 4.56's which im gonna do when i get money, or if you want it a little lower ratio go 4.88's
Yeah I'm looking to get a 3" body lift kit for my 2000 tacoma 4x2 but I'm not sure which kit is the right one. They all look the same to me. I also have no idea how much installation is gonna cost either. Does anybody have an idea? Also I'm wondering what additional things i'll need once i get the lift. I was considering a suspension lift but i just purchased new shocks for the front and rear and dont want replace them.

According to my axle code, on the door jam thats what i got.

hey what kind of lift did you use? im shopping around and not sure which one to buy.
I have Downey's 3" coilover lift in the front and blocks and a add a leaf in the back, with procomp extended brake lines. i like the lift a lot, i wheel it pretty agressive and have had no problems with it.
Hey did you have to replace the rear shocks with that lift? Do you remember how much the install was too? I'm lookin at the suspension lift because it doesn't appear to alter the handling very much with only a 3" lift.

yes, i got new rear shocks from 4 wheel parts, just tell them you need rear shocks for a tacoma with a 3" lift. i got the cheapo pro comp shocks for $30 each, i dont like them too much because they are a little stiff for my liking. i did the install of the lift myself, it wasent too hard, if you can do general maintinence on your truck, its no problem. heres a link to the Downey web site downey. the handling didnt change much also. Hope this helps!
Yeah that helped a lot. Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to add spacers to the front coils and higher shackles and maybe a soft leaf to the rear. This seems more practical and less complicated than the other alternatives I've sought. By the way, Do they sell 3" spacers and shackles? I'm wondering if that's too high to find. I think that may be the max I can find in shackles and spacers.

a few companies sell spacers and shackle/add-a-leaf kits, here are a few...Revtek price for the revtek lift is around $300-$400 Cornfed

Toyota could have used a few different ratios, depending on factory tire size and auto tranny and manual tranny. TRY HERE
do you think this kit is availible for 4x2's? I'll check the sites again but I wanna make sure i can find the kit for my truck. Thanks for the site. I just wish I didn't have to buy new rear shocks. I'm probably gonna keep my stock tires and wheels just because the tires are brand new.

the suspension is different on the 4x2 non pre runner, im asuming that your truck is not a pre runner because it has a manual tranny, the prerunners are all auto's, downey has a kit for a 2wd i would go back to the site and check it out, as for other companies, im not too sure.
Yeah I'm going to have to get separate kits for this project. The spacers aren't very expensive but I'm having trouble finding a soft add-a-leaf and longer shackles for the rear. So I'm gonna have to get parts separate. It's not a pre runner therefore the leaf springs in the back are very weak. They sag whenever I put some minor load in the back. Hopefully the add a leaf will help that as well as give it some lift.
