engine drain plug on 93 22RE pickup

Hi all,

I just purchased a '93 4x4 pickup yesterday. I am in the process of replacing all the fluids on the vehicle.

I was looking at the manual and it says the engine drain plug is on the left side of the block. I am having difficulty locating this plug. Is it covered by the heatshield that sits on top of the exhaust manifold? Can somebody tell me how to find it?

Also, if I just drain it from the radiator and then run a garden hose through the system for a few minutes, would that be a sufficient flush?

Thanks,
Derek

don.t know about the drain plug but running a garden hose through the system is not a sufficent flush.

disconnect the coil from this distributor so it won't start. remove the drain plug let it drain. when done turn the motor over a few time until water stops comin out. fill it up and drain a couple times. put the plug back in fill with ratiator with radiator flush and run for a few minutes then repeat the fill and flush again. empty out the system then fill with distilled water(NOT TAP water) and coolant 50%/50%. there is other ways of doing this. ITs just how I do it.

You need to drain and fill.....then run until the level drops. Then drain and fill again. Keep doing this until the stuff you drain out is as clear as when it went in. Then fill with the proper fluid/DI water mixture.
