Need tranny advice.
I have an 87 pickup, 22r, 2WD, 4 speed manual, ~140k mi. I was doing about 60mph, and 4th gear went out. I am trying to decide between replacing the truck or repairing it. I have a few questions that perhaps someone could answer to lead me to my decision.
1) How much should I expect to spend on a rebuilt tranny?
2) I have seen a few used tranny’s around, what years would work with a 87, and could a 5 speed be used instead of a 4 speed? Would any particular years be better than others?
3) How hard would it be to swap the tranny myself? I have limited experience, and someone that swapped one tranny 30 years ago willing to help.
