Is it easy to change shocks on your own?

Wanted to see if any of you have changed your own shocks.

if so is it worth doing it yourself?

rear shocks r easy....for front you'll need a coil spring compressor...but they're kinda dangerous if you don't know what you're doing....

you won't need a spring compressor for either front or rear... it's a straight forward swap, remove and replace.

yes it's in the chilton's manual... just look under your car, you see the spring and shock are a seperate unit, they're not macpherson type shocks.

You don't need a manual, just look under there and you'll see. There are 2 bolts and/or nuts that hold on each shock. Just take them off and put on the new one. Be sure to soak the nuts/bolts in penetrating oil for a couple days first.

If you got a 2wd, no problem and very easy, don't need a manual for a simple work like this. And 2wd have a torsion bar that you don't need to worry about any spring compressor. I've change all four shocks in less than 1/2 hour.

thank you all for the reply.

I'll spray them down with wd40 for a week or so. Then I'll install the new one.
