Damn 6 Cd Changer

I have a 99 4runner and the factory 6-cd changer is shittin out on me. I'm in college so I'm not about to take it in and have it looked at since I can't afford it.

Over the last 6 months it's been acting up. First it would take a little while but then it would read the cd's ok, like it needed a chance to warm up or something. Now it just plain won't read shit.

I ran one of those bogus cd player cleaning cd things and it didn't work. Has this happened to anyone?

If it has you know how damn frustrating it is to have a 6-cd changer yet have to use one of those stupid tape-to-discman things to listen to cd's.

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!!!

and people give me crap about buyin an after market deck with a changer
Are u using cd-r's or real cd's. I do find I have to burn new cd's every 6 months or so cause they get beat up and don't work any more, try burning some new disks. Those cleaning disk don't work right in feed through the front car decks. the mechanism screws up the brushes. they were ment for home cd players. they do work for those.

hate to say it but buyin a new deck is the cheapest way. service on those decks start around 300 bucks and usually is about 500 and u get to send them to NY. good alpine deck is like 250 200 for bottom of the line even a decent sony is 150. not a double DIN but they sound alot better and u acually get a warrenty.
simple replacement. remove some of the dash around it pop it out. be sure to buy a wiring harness to match the deck and put the other deck in, U might get lucky and buy someones new factory deck on e-bay for 200 bucks. I got 225 for mine when I pawned it off there. , same wiring for all deck on all toyota's since at least 92. Of course it was a month old and working. I do reccomend changing out the speakers too, since the factory puts in cheapy 20w paper speakers, and yes I am a broke college kid too. U just got to set your prioritys u want music or a lift kit? Anyway there just suggestions. Peace
