electric fuel pump addon discarded mechanical

I got an 83 4x4 22r carberated, I installed an electric fuel pump, took the mechanical fuel pump off the cyld. head and block the opening. I dont have a fuel return line for excess gas, do I need one? I know the floats close preventing uneeded gas from entering, but if i dont have one a return line, will it mess up my carb or motor? Is there some way to make the excess gas return without having that mechanical pump? Should i just put the mechanical pump back on....

I have never known of a need for a return line with an electric pump. I do remember that many years ago, at least, it was advised to mount the electric pump fairly low (not high on the firewall as was done on my first car). The problem was that the pump could push gas, but couldn't suck it out of the tank very well. Maybe the newer designs are better.

when adding an electric pump to replace your mechanical pump use a fuel pressure regulator and set it at the recomended psi the mechanical one doesn't need it cause it's using the motor to tell it how much fuel is needed. hope this helps
