Is there such a thing as an oil change indicator on a '89 Toyota truck? Maybe you're talking about the oil pressure light?

If the pressure light is on, then you should get the engine checked to make sure the oil pressure is ok. If the pump is not working correctly, or the pick up is partially clogged, or you have a wildly out of spec clearance somewhere, you might have low pressure which would trigger the light. Or you might just have a bad pressure switch or something. Better to find out right away before something much more expensive suffers.
