The prerunner is built/looks like a 4x4 (ready for off road) but it is 2 wheel drive. Better on gas, insurance; and some people don't need the 4x4 capability.

The prerunner's 4 cyl engine is a 2.7 litre instead of the reg. tacomas 2.4. Also bigger brakes and some other important stuff.

If you get the TRD package with your PreRunner, you get better spring rates, Bilstein shocks, locking differential (electricly operated from cab), 16" alloy wheels. Mine has the 3.4 V6 as well. From the appearance of the truck, most people think it's a 4X4!!? I've owned a 4X4 in the past, but rarely go places that you actually need a 4X4......currently, I can go alot of places the 4X4s go, but I have to be smart about it and have some additional weight over the rear wheels. Although there are the times I wish I had a 4X4 again!
