Failed 3.4 Super Charger

I got a 2001 tacoma and the charger "failed" at 53,000 miles. Anybody have this happen before?

Never heard of SC's failing so prematurely. Then again, I haven't been exposed to SC's that long. Sorry to hear.

Can you eloborate on exactly what "failed"? Nose gears, blades, housing walls, oil leak?

It might be salvagable. Maybe have www.magnusonproducts.com take a look at it.

What happend first is the hasitation off the line and really uneven acelleration at full throtle. The first thing I did was a complete tune-up, wires, plugs, PCV valve, ect. That did nothing. So I brought it to the dealer and after they looked at it they concluded that the SC was failing. It is covered under the 5/60,000 powertrain warranty, but I got alot of heat from them about the tune-up cause I used aftermarket parts. The thing that I want to know is will I have to replace the SC again at 100,000 at my own expense? So I'm tryn' to find somebody who might know about problems with the TRD SC.

U still didn't address my question. How exactly was it failing?

All the things you mentioned (wires, plugs, PCV valve, ect. ) wouldn't necessarily do anything to the SC. If anything, it would do damage to the engine first. Some of the possible ways you can damage the SC is starve it of lubricating oil, over spin it with a smaller pulley or have debris get lodged into the housing.

As for the warranty, you're outta luck after 60K. Upgrading to an extended warranty might cover it. Get it in writing!

I by no means claim to know very much about superchargers but anyone I have ever spoken too about them has told me they are only good for about 60,000 miles before they need rebuilt. Come to think of it I have read it as well.

Unfortunately after that warranty is up, you're on your own. Try calling TRD to see if they can take a look at it. Most Toyota Dealerships don't know squat about the S/C's.

just make sure your air filter is performing up to snuff so no debris can make it through there, and check for any oil leaking from the front housing or the nose area. some dealers will say this is common but its not and it needs to be fixed immediately, other than that just a reg. tuneup is all i can recommend. the s/c is made by magnusson the last i knew so you may check with them to see how much they'd charge on a tuneup, i dont know if id trust the dealer with that one. good luck

doesnt' sound like the s/c is failing...are you still getting boost??? next question---do you have any fuel mods, like URD kit or 7th injector? or are you just running the s/c by itself? the uneven acceleration at WOT sounds like you're leaning out
