Hi.

I'm lookin' for a small daily driver 4WD truck, and i'm considerin' an older toyota. What gas mileage can I expect from a STOCK 80's era 4X4 toyota pickup? Thanks!

I get about 17 or so around town and some freeway. I can get almost 20 on the freeway if I don't go too fast. Of course, bigger tires will trash that. When I got the truck it had 32's on it and it only got about 14 to 15 around town. Went to 30's and picked up a couple mpg. Quite a bit faster off the line now too.

My '89 4WD truck w/V6 averages 20mpg highway but it's not stock. I might be able to get better fuel economy if I was to drive with my windows up. Less drag???

Just basic bolt-ons: headers, intake, exhaust, no cat , bored t-body, and electric fan. It feels and runs better than before and gets better fuel economy. Before the mods, the best mpg my truck ever got was 18mpg but it usually averaged 17mpg.

Performance-wise, it ain't fast but managed to roll right along a 2WD manual S-10 w/4.3L V6 from a dead stop up until around 50 mph. We did two runs and had the same exact results. Not bad I guess for a 15 year old truck with an auto tranny.
