a half shaft is a inner and outer cv on a shaft.you need one left half shaft on the left and one half shaft on right thus making a indepdent suspension.you can install a solid axle system from older truck.lots of work and fun.when you have a bad cv joint inner or outer it is cheaper to replace the half shalf thank to labor cost in other countries that work for burritos.many atou parts stores offer lifetime warranties on halfshafts for about 79.00.where as a c.v. might cost you 125.00 I know it does not make sense.I just buy the half shafts with the c.v.inner and outer at a national auto parts store that starts wiyh A only because this store seems to be cheaper for shafts and they have a great lifetime warranty system where if you loose your reciept the have a record of your purchases from the telephone number you provide when purchases is made.which means the warranty can be transfered if the buyer knows the phone number.
