I just picked up my 2004 Tacoma Xtracab 6cvl 4WD automatic. I had a class III hitch installed for my current towing needs.

The owners manual refers to a 6,000 lb tow capacity with "tow package".

My question is this.....what constitutes the tow package other than the obvious hitch/wiring with converter? Is it basically a tranny cooler and rear stabilizer bar? Is this available for the 6cyl specifically? Has anyone used the heavy duty tranny cooler available from U-haul? What would you suggest for towing say 5800 lbs?

You can get a b&m trans cooler fairly cheap. I think the tow package also includes a stronger alternator. I've never seen 6k pounds as the max towing capacity. The toyota website shows 5k as the max.

Thanks for the reply. My owners manual reads 6000lbs max with tow package. The website does read 5000lbs. Conflicting info...
