heater/AC fan speed control problem

hi, i bought my truck a little over 2 months ago and when i bought it, my fan speed control lever in the cab is really hard to push on and off. It really ticks me off because the other day i had to use a hammer just to get it to go to the off position. Its easy to push if from off to low and high, but from high and low to off, is so hard, the knob flew off, and the hammer was used to persuade it in the off position. My question is, how hard would it be to tear the dash appart, and take it out and try to fix it. I tried to oil it and run it back and forth to try to loosen it up, but its still a nasty bugger to move.

Hey! Same thing happened to mine, but now its stuck off. Won't budge. I havn't done anything about it yet, but according to Hayne's you just have to remove the knobs, ac switch cover (if you have one) and pry the black face plate off and the hole thing is screwed on underneath that.

That is, if you have an 89 or newer (I think)


I was going to do something about it when I had more money and time.

Its not that cold.

yea, tomorrow or saturday im going to take the plate off and look at how its held into place. Ive had practically the whole dash off before so im confident i can get it fixed.
