Unhappy Clunk When shifting into 4th & 5th

Hey guys-
I own a 95 Tacoma 4x4 that runs awesome minus this problem. I run the 5 speed manual. The clunk happens when i upshift from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th. It's most apparent when i release the clutch at a normal pace. It's still there, but less noticable even when i let the clutch out real slowly. It's not there when downshifting or upshifting into 1,2, or 3. It's a clunk you feel in the seat of your pants. It's definitely coming from directly below me. Loose driveshaft bolts? U-joints bad? What's going on here??

I'm not sure what it is, but I would crawl underneath and check the u-joints. Maybe jack up one side of the rear and rotate the driveshaft back and forth to see if anything strange is going on. There should be no noticeable play in the u-joints.

Whats the best way to check for play in the U-Joints?

With the transmission in neutral and one wheel jacked up, rotate the driveshaft back and forth. The other end of the u-joint should respond immediately, as if it were one solid piece--no detectable relative movement.

Excellent. Thank you. I'll have to get my hands on a floor jack.
