1998 Trd?

i have a 2003 tacoma trd that i bought new. my friend just bought a 1998 tacoma, 5sp, manual windows and locks, that has trd stickers on it but i dont think it really is a trd. what year did they start putting lockers in the back on trds? i thought it was 2001, right? and i hevent seen any trds without power windows and locks. what are the other signs on 1998 to indicate a trd?

cant tell, they are dirty. what i mean is, is it possible to have a trd without sr5? i know his doesnt have the locker so it must not be a trd. i just wasnt sure if, in 98, the trds didnt have the locker. like the lockers werent availabe until a later year.

ive got a 98 trd and its got the locker on it.
to check if its really a TRD it should have the locking diff, and the bilstein shocks. those are the two quick giveaways right there. other than that you can have a dealer run the VIN and they'll be able to tell you everything the truck should have.

the factory shocks are plain black i believe, not totally sure on that, but the bilsteins would be noticeable whether they were dirty or not. the boot on top is a baby bluish color and the body is yellow, both front shocks and rear.

I forgot to mention flares...trd's of that era had med. profile black flares on front and rear.shocks get changed, nobody in rite mind would take flares off.
