USA Transmission trouble

Dont like my first post to me negative, but here it is. I have the '03 4-runner with the v8 option. I bought the truck becuase I drive 45-50K miles per year, and at around 70K i started having trouble with the transmission.

Today it was confirmed that the torque converter is starting to go. I called the dealer I purchased the truck from and they told me that the warranty expired at 60K miles and that the new transmission is 5-6K!

The dealer did not know of any recalls or the like associated with this transmission and told me there were no known issues with this model. However I did speak with several other technicians and they said they have seen this before with the toyota suv's due to high torque output on the motor and a downsized transmission.

Does anyone have any news that might help me with toyota? Other than this issue I do love the truck, it gets 19.5 miles per gallon and holds everything I need it to. However the current situation is troubling.

Thank you in advance for your help.
