I want to put a lift on my truck and was considering a 3-3.5" lift (don't want to high for the wife will complain). But am unsure what size tire I can fit with that size lift on there? Any help please?
Thank You

I'm looking into getting a 3" body lift myself. The bigger tires will look dope and the body lift is only a couple hundred dollars. So far I've looked into the name brands with prices as high as $350. There's a site www.toyteclifts.com that sells a reasonably priced 3" lift.
The size tire you can fit in the well apparently depends on how much actual lift you'll get when you install the 3" lift. Some trucks (newer, older) will lift a little more or less depending on the condition of your springs and shocks. I drive an 03 Tacoma 4x4, so with the newer shocks and springs I'm planning on getting about 3" of actual lift. The stock tire is a LT265/70R16... I'm at least putting an LT285/75R16 on there. After I get the lift on I'm going to take a look at how much room I'm dealing with and then work from there.
If you find any good sites or forums with help on tire size selection after a lift, let me know dude.
I have a 1999 TRD 2.7 ext Cab Taco and I have 3 inches of Body and 3 inches of suspension. I run 33x12.5's MTR's with Mickey Thompson 15x8 rims. I would recommend 3 and 3 if you are going to actually go offroad so that way you don't stuff the tires in the wheel wells , however i do know of people who just get 3 lifts ( body or suspension) and run 33's. I only rub a little when pull in and out of tight turns or parking places. I don't use any wheels spacers either. Hope this helps
Cool! Thanks for the advice. I've looked into getting 3 and 3 but I'm sticking with just the body lift. The truck is beefy enough for what I do offroad right now... I'm just looking throw some bigger shoes on it that will peek out from the mudflap/wheelwell. You wouldn't happen to know anyone with a 3" body lift only, would you? What are the biggest tires I could fit with only the body lift? I'm sure 33x12.5 would be sweet if I could drop the $$ on the suspension lift. Right now I'll be sticking with the body lift. From what I've seen/heard 285s would be the biggest I could get in there without getting the rub.
Thanks again for your help. Take it easy.
You will need at least a 4inch suspension lift to clear 33x12.5's for a Tacoma. We did this on a 01 Tacoma but rather then going 33x12.5's...stick with the 16 inch rim and find the metric equivelant to the 33's and you won't have any rub problems. Going to the 15 inch rim and 33's will cause rubbing on turns and hard dips. Hope this helps.

Please clarify... you're saying that the 01 Tacoma did rub when you put 33x12.5 on a 15" rim. Why are you recommending that I use the same size tire on a 16" rim? How will that prevent rubbing?
Thanks again for your help. I appreciate it.
Sure thing. What my friend should have done is kept the 16 inch rim and gone with a P-metric size tire. Roughly 305/70R16. This ends up being a 32.81 inch diameter and 12 inches wide. Where as the 33x12.5 equaly just slightly larger then 33 inches. This keeps the look but the the tires won't rub. Hope this helps.

Hey MrSkott. Did you do the 4.88 gears after the lift or at the same time? I got a 86 4runner, 22re, auto with the 4" ProComp lift and 33x12.5 Mud Terrains. Still running 4.10 and hating it. Wondering what kind of difference it makes and how much $$$. Is yours 4x2 or 4x4 cause 4x2=8 and 4x4=16 so it would cost twice as much, right!

Don't be BS'd. I have a 2 1/2 fabtech suspension lift and a 3" body lift on my '00 prerunner and I run 35/12.50R17 M/T Baja Claws. I only had the slightest rubbing and that was cured with a 5 minute pinch weld mod. You'd also have to regear, I had to go up to 4.88.
If your going to keep the 22re, then I would suggest 5.12 gears, it will help restore some of the Ooomph from the tire increase. the v6 allows for 4.88. I did mine about 1 month after lift and tires, once I discovered the lost power.

So adding bigger tires will result in some power loss? I'm not wanting to change my gear ratio... after I put on the 3" lift, how big of a tire should I go with? If I fit the biggest tire I can in there after the lift, would that kill some of my power? Or is a 3" body lift not going to give me enough room to fit a tire that would sap my power?
I didn't even consider that. Any insight you can provide would be appreciated.
Any time you change tire dimensions, you start messing with over all gear ratios. This means that any increase in tire size will change the designed power curve. The bigger you go the more you must offset with different gear sets. However, you can for example with most Tacoma 3.4 V-6's handle a 33 inch tire because the engine has relatively ample horsepower to push the bigger tires. It also ofter means more time spent mashing the accelerator to get the same sense of acceleration. For general rule of thumb on a 33x12R15's would be 4 Cylinder = 5.12 gears, 3.0 V-6 = 4.88 gears, and 3.4 V-6 and higher can stay stock 4.10's. If your seriously wanting to keep your power band then stick with no larger then 31x10R15's or the equivalent size which is just slighty larger then stock.
Hope this helps.

OK... thanks for the info. I've got the 3.4L V6 with the 5 speed manual in my truck. I've looked in my owner's manual and I can't find what my stock gear ratios are. You wouldn't happen to know that, would you?
