Have just finished rebuilding the bottom end of my 22RE (88 4Runner), and I have a noise coming from inside the (new) timing chain cover(???). When at higher revs (over 2400rpm) or when decellerating, I am gettinga clacking from this area. The engine runs perfectly at idle, and accelerates fine. I’m thinking of that top oil pump housing bolt being too long, interfering with the slack adjuster of the timing chain, but wanted to ask the learned masses here. It is a new timing chain and a new Rock timing chain cover. My oil pressure is in specs, compression is fine, etc.
Opinions?
