? about 22re timing

Hi ,I have a 85 truck 22re,I just replaced the timing chain ,and when I went to set the timing ,it made no difference if my T connector was jumped or not.So I just set it by ear and drove ,it runs alright ,no pinging ,but I'd really like to get right.Any ideas what might be wrong?thanks for the help 7

Is the check engine lite on?
Was the truck fully warmed up when you jumped the T connector?
