what exactly are you asking about changing plugs?
just unhook all 6 boots and use a socket wrench, remove all 6 old plugs, dispose of them. Then look in your book ( or go to local toyota shop or parts store) for the correct size and # of plug, buy them, and set your gap to what it says in the book,(or the dealer/parts shop worker can probably tell you what you need) reinstall the plugs and re connect your boots, and you're done.

Actually on the 3.4L only one side has the boots, the other has the coil over the spark plugs. But its easy. Remove the intake hose, unbolt the coil packs, and pull them out. Then take the spark plugs out. The drivers side is straight forward and you shouldn't need to remove any additional parts.

Canada Spark plug changing tips specifics

Dear Adam, Here are the specific questions for you.
#1 The 3 spark plugs on the drivers side are under the High Tension cords?
A) How in gods name do you get to the two closest to the winshield out? Hints tips secrets?

#2 The other three are under ignition coils on the passenger side correct?
A) I have changed many a spark plug but never messed with ignition coils.
B) how far under or in the cylinder are the plugs?
C) Tips secrets hints on what to remove to get at them?

That would be a good start Adam. I truely hope you can come through for me.
Thank you
sincerly

Canada A Yota Jedi you are

Dear SLC Punk,
You obviously know alittle more about Toyota's specifically.
You were correct about the 5VZ-FE spark plug set up.
#1 In the shop manual it says remove the high tension from the coil but there shouldn't be any reason not to just un bolt it as one unit?
#2 What about getting to the plugs themselves. Do you use a flexible extention shaft or what? The boot side should be easy but I honestly can't even get my hands in there. (drivers side)
#3 The coil side has more space but obviously the air cleaner hose has to go. (thank you, any thing I should be cautious of there?) What else can I do for more space or to get the friggin' little *% * ?! 's out?

This is embarrassing. I can't believe how much grief this is giving me. I've had the new plugs for a month now.
Ps I have access to almost any tool you could recommend.
Pss if you need digital pictures for a real assessment just ask.
Thank you
sincerly
Jamas

you problbly could just unbolt the coil. I dont think itll hurt anything. To get to the hard to reach ones, you could possibly use a flex shaft. Ive in the past used a hose or tube that fits over the top of the plug and unscrew the plug the rest of the way. Once you get it loosened up with the flex shaft, put the hose over it and take it out. (this method also helps for reinstalling the new plugs in hard to reach places) its the stupid things that work the best for me.

hope i am of some help
