Post water pump on 3.4 v-6

I wrote in awhile ago about coolant loss in my 99 tacoma.it turns out that my water pump Does leak out,and now is actuall making an audible screech.im my own mechanic and my chiltons book says to change the pump, you must remove the timing belt.I know that I SHOULD do this, but is it necessary, or is this just to keep possible contaminants from the rubber of the belt?i absolutley need to change the pump now,but im afraid of making a fedral project out of this, cuz' its my only rig and i gotta work.Anybody been into the front of these motors?

Okay, looked it up on alldata, this job sucks! what i thought was the waterpump was really a cover/fan-bearing unit.the waterpump is buried under a lot of stuff.Definatley not a smallblock chev I figger thishas gotta be an all day job, and the belt is actually in the way, so yah, might as well do it.I'll let ya all know how long the job takes:alldata doent give any times on this job
