rough shift from 1st to 2nd

Hi, ive noticed on my 92 22re 5spd truck that when i shift from 1st to second gear i can get the shifter about 3/4 the way to second, and it kinda hits a rough spot and has a faint grind and is hard to pull it past that point. IF you shift fast, it'll do this, but if you shift it slowly, itll go into 2nd easier. When shifting faster, it'll still go into 2nd, but hits that hard spot and you need to pull it through slower. Im not going to drive it until the spring, and ive only tested it in my driveway, so ill see how it acts on the road. It has been sitting for about a year and a half and only driven every once in awhile in that time, so i hope once i drive it and get it up and moving again in the spring when i get my permit itll loosen up.
Whatd be the best bet to fixing/lessening this problem? Just trying to get some ideas right now and ill consider fixing it if it doesnt loosen up after i drive it for awhile.

Hi,

I had the same problem for years, then I made the switch to synthetic gear oil and the problem disappeared. Most people seem to swear by Redline, but I used Mobile 1. Worth a try anyway.

this is a cheap and easy way to test the tranny... if simply changing the fluid does the trick, thats certainly cheaper than having a mechanic look at your tranny and tell you the synchro's are fine
