84 Transmission Problems?

Hello all,

I have a 1984 Toyota Pickup 2WD automatic that's beginning to have problems up-shifting. For example, without coaxing the truck into 4th, it'll stay in 3rd until 45 - 50 MPH. Same thing with overdrive - it'll stay in 4th until 60 - 65 most of the time. To get the truck to shift into 4th at 30 - 35, I have to ease off the gas enough for it to up-shift. Same deal with overdrive, though it's much more difficult to get the truck to up-shift into overdrive if I'm at 55.

The truck has 94,000 miles.

It this likely a transmission problem or could there be another suspect? If it's a transmission problem, what's the best way to go about getting this fixed? Should I get an OEM model, rebuilt, etc? I'm not much of a DIY kinda guy unless the problem is simple, so this is definately something I'll have someone else working on. I'd just like to get an idea of what I could be getting into before I have it looked at.

Thanks in advance,

Craig

If your not a DIY kinda guy I would try your local yota dealer. It may only cost you an hour for labor to have a tech look at it and see if it needs a rebuild or replacement .I know they are costly but they do them everyday. good luck
