Horn stopped working /srs light on

Paid a Toyota mechanic $60 to tell me it will be $500 minimum to fix my horn. He has a feeling it is a broken spiral cable in the steering wheel that has caused the problem.
Anyone out there ever have a broken spiral cable?
Anyone know how compatable they are in terms of makes and years?
Any suggestions where to look for a used or cheap one. (be specific I've tried alot of things now)

Yep my horn quit a yr ago.. I bought a large horn button from NAPA and wired it in.. kind of unsightly but it passes NY state inspection. Ck the salvage yards for one, definately wont cost ya 500 bucks
