1989 Toyota truck pedal assembly

Hello, I was wondering if anyone here knew of a place to look for a complete installation guide of a 1989 toyota pickup w/ manual tranny clutch install. Any help would be much appreciate.

Thanks,
Dan

The best source for repair procedures for your truck is a factory shop manual. Might be a bit difficult to locate, though. E-bay might be a good place to try.

Allow me to describe what is going on here. The other day my girlfriend was driving and we heard a "pop" from inside the car. Nothing drastic happened right away, but now the car is really difficult to shift. I looked under the dash and it appears the bracket for the pedal assembly is cracked. Everytime the clutch is pushed, the bracket just bends, instead of actuating the clutch master cylinder.

Again, any help is much appricaited!!

Thanks,
Dan

clutch pedal-removal and installation
1 remove the pedal return spring spring
2 disconnect the master cylinder pushrod from the pedal by removing the spring clip and pulling out the pushrod pin
3 remove the pedal shaft (located at the top of the pedal shaft)
4 remove the clutch pedal with its bushings and collar
5 clean the parts in solvent and replace any that are damaged or excessively worn
6 installation is the reverse of the removal proceedure during installation apply multi purpose grease to the pedal boss, return spring pedal shaft and pushrod pin

sorry I have no scanner to show you the diagram

oboy!cheapo clutch pedal assembly

thathappened to me this summer.I thought it was the clutch,so i repalced the clutch(with a zoom clutch) since it needed it anyway, but actually the real problem was the bracket.I am just surprised that cheap bracket held up for 150,000 miles.replacing it is aslmost out of the question since a zillion things gotta come off . i found a welder who was wiling to crawl up under the dash all twisted and contorted and spot weld the damn thig back on.It was very difficult since by the time it braeks off the floorboard(AND IT WILL!)there is usually also a crack in the bracket.aslo the shhet metal on the floor bord is so thin it is hard to wld without putting a hole in it.end of story? done b a great guy for 30.00(toreplaCE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN PROBABLY A FEW HUNDRED SINCE THE BRACKET IS A HUNDRED-fifty dollar dealer only item.Only problem is the weld doesnt look like it will last forever, but the guy was cool and told me to bring it back if (when) it breaks. I dont know why toyota put that cheap ass bracket on such a great truck!!!

Thank you all so very much. I guess I'm going to remove the clutch assembly and inspect the bushing, and possibly replace it. Also, I noticed the bracket is cracked. So, I guess welding that is gonna need to happen. Thanks again for everyone's help! I will post what the outcome of all this garbage is!

Thanks,
Dan

i would go to the bone yard and grab one rather than doing all that work. if you have never done a clutch it can be a bitch of a job but if you feel you need to do it make sure you inspect the flywheel and replace the pilot bearing/bushing and if you buy a kit it comes with the alignment tool so you can align the disc properly to where the tranny slides right in without damaging the disc. if the clutch wasnt slipping i would just get the pedal and such from a junk yard man.

Oops! I didn't mean the actual clutch. I just meant the clutch pedal assembly, heh. Thanks for that advice though!

This happened to my cousin's '91 truck and he also fixed it by welding it back.

Any Public Library in your area would have the Factory service manual,Haynes,Chiltons,Mitchells,Bentley and Toyota repair books.

There is also free AutoZone service manuals at:

http://www1.autozone.com/servlet/UiB...pair_guide.jsp

For scanned pages of factory service manuals for other engines:

2003 Toyota Tacoma Factory Service Manual:

FSM (factory service manual)can be acquired in several ways:

Toyota Material Distribution Center
750 West Victoria St
Rancho Dominguez/Compton,CA 90220-5538
USA
Ph:1-800-622-2033 (outside CA)(M-F: 7-5 PST)
Ph:1-800-443-7656 (inside CA)
Ph:1-310-818-4630 (in or outside CA)
Speak to Beverly or Deloris
http://techinfo.toyota.com/public/main/mdc.html
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/FSM.shtml

1)buy a used one off e-bay
2)some Toyota dealerships may give you one or sell it for $10-20 (used) as most Toyota dealerships don't repair many old Toyotas and no longer need the service manual
3)some public libraries sell their old books as they are not in demand any longer
4)some free buy & sell classified papers, websites and bulletin boards may have some used ones for sale
5)some junk yards may have one laying around
6)some Toyota specialty garages may have one laying around and no longer use it as the vehicle may be too old and those mechanics probably have so much experience that they could publish their own factory service manual with corrections and "real world repair tips"
7)if someone has the FSM maybe they could scan all of the pages and post it on a site for all of us to download or view.
