Angry 89 Toy with carb cold starts.

I have been having trouble with cold starts on my 89 Truck especially when it sits a few days. . you have to pump it a lot to get it to start. Once it starts it runs ok. Any suggestions.

TIA
Larry

Is your choke closed when the engine is cold?

Not totally closed but it does seem to be working ok. It doesn't have any adjustment that I can see. The thing that is used for adjustment is riveted on.

The choke operation was made complicated with smog regulations. It should still be closed completely when cold and not running. I would be inclined to drill out the rivet and tweak the choke until it just closes when cold, then put in a screw and nut to hold it. However, that could adversely affect any smog inspection or test you might have to take.

I have owned a couple of carbureted Toyotas ('82, '85, and '87), but most of my experience has been with older engines. Maybe someone else here knows more about yours??
