won't start

I just bought a 85 pu with 22r. The guy said it over heated. Well I looked at the oil and saw no water in it. I replaced the plugs, cap and rotor. It get's spark and turns over but won't start. I tried putting gas in the carb and no luck I also spray starting fueled in it as well. If it had a blow head gasket, would that cause it to not start? Also would it be better for me to find a used motor or just replace the broken parts. Also how hard is it to pull the head? I use to have a chevy luv that had a 1.8l iszue motor and replaced the head gasket on it all the time? Also how much would a good used motor cost. I only paid $200 for the truck and the body is in pretty good cond.

If its getting spark, fuel check the timming chain..bets thats your prob why it wont start
Pull #1 spark plug and bring motor around till your on #1 cylinder and see where the rotor is facing under the cap

Hope this helps you out

I did pull the cover and the timeing chain isn't broke. How will I tell if I'm on #1 cylinder. Will the piston be pushed all the way up?

Well sense you have the cover off bring it around to you line up the timming marks then pull out #1 spark plug and see if its all the way up. You can use a small screw driver to stick in the hole to feel if its their. Also look at the dis rotor and make sure that is pointing on #1 cylinder and your not off ... You want to be on the intake stroke not the exhaust stroke. Good luck

You would need to replace the timming chain and gears. Just try what I posted before you go and rip it down to the timming chain,Dont want to do any extra work if not needed. Good luck
