I hope this isn't a stupid question.

But anyway I see that the Nissan Xterra is listed as having 210 hp and the 4runner listed at 183. Does this actually mean that the Nissan is a more powerul and maybe more efficent tower than my runner?
What about on the track...who would outrun who?
I've actually always wondered about this 'cos I notice a lot of other SUV's out there which are quoted as having way more power than the 4runner.

The 4Runner's old now...
However, back in 96 I think, when it first came out...it was the only SUV to have a sub 10 second 0-60 time. Since then, came the Jeep 5.9 Limited with a 6.9s 0-60...then along came the Germans- BMW X5 4.4 and the Mercedes ML55.

Most important however, is torque and at what RPM you get it. Rarely, unless you are racing, you don't have to redline to get all the power you need. Lets say you are towing a boat out of the launch dock...you won't be riding the clutch at 5500RPM to get it moving would ya?

Xterra is not in the same class as 4Runner. Base price for 4Runner, you can get a fully loaded supercharged Xterra...and althrough smaller, the Xterra is heavier than 4Runner- it tows less weight and has less standard payload.
No one makes trucks like Toyota.

So to answer your question, NO, the Xterra would not tow like the 4Runner can. Xterra only looks good on paper...it might have the bigger engine, the more torque...but it's a sissy of a truck, small and heavy...4Runner is the real deal.

Thanks for the reply. That clears up a lot. I didn't realise that the Xterra was that heavy. Just looks like a much lighter truck.

you're right! that was a stupid question. That nissan requires a supercharger to produce that power. Just run out and pick one up and you will be puching 260+.

Real off roading occurs at about 1200rpms, in 1st gear, and in low range 4WD.

Real power comes from spinning all 4 tires with a locked center and rear diff trying to get that stupid boat out.

A real truck looks good when it is muddy.

My top 10 list of PRETENDER trucks- all posh, no ruggedness. You take one of these off road, and make sure you take a friend with a 4Runner and a winch. Or prepare to have your heart broken when you scratch a running board...lol...MY NAVIGATOR'S ELECTRIC RUNNING BOARD! NOOOO!

1) Nissan XTerra - pretends to be cool, but fools no one
2) Lincoln Navigator - Electric running boards? Go through a river...ZAP
3) BMW X5 - 30 series tires? Sub 10 minute Nuburgring time? SUV Rice
4) Porsche Cayenne - HAHAHAHA, i'm gonna OFF ROAD my $200,000 SUV
5) Subaru Baja and Forester - You have ground clearance...that's about it...
6) Honda CR-V/Pilot/MDX - Suspension components too low.
7) Toyota Highlander/RX300 - A Sienna with 4WD...and a Sienna's a CAMRY
8) Suzuki Vitara/X90 - Dime sized tires.
9) Buick Rendevous/Pontiac Aztek - Don't even try to think about it.
10) Mecedes ML - Posh with big tires...and it's LOW...

Top 10 list of real deal SUV's

1) Toyota 4Runner...of course
2) GMC Suburban/Yukon XL - American power and size
3) Ford Excusrion/Expedition V10 - American power and size
4) Hummer H1 - Can climb Civics
5) Dodge Durango V8 - Fat tires, big engine.
6) Mercedes G500 - A proper luxury SUV
7) Land Rover Defender/DiscoII/Range - They do nothing but SUV's.
8) Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 - I wouldn't, but the suspension is amazing.
9) Mitsubishi Pajero - Strong silent type.
10) Ford Explorer - The original APV.
