1980 truck coolant drain problem

We have our first real look at winter facing us in GA. I went to drain my coolant system this afternoon and there was only a dribble out of the drain plug. I wound up removing the bottom hose so I could put the antifreeze in.

The water that was in the radiator was the color or north Georgia red clay. Should I run some of a flush solution through the radiator? Other recommendations?

Thanks,

Joel

I would fush the radiator out. Did you try to blow the drain out with compressed air, or stick something in the hole? If the rad is 14 years old, it really needs flushing real good.

I'd recommend running Prestone flush thru the system. Run your heater(s) for the 5 or 10 minutes to clean theme out also. Then flush with clean water. I used Prestone, it gotrid ofthe oil contamination I got from my timing cover (and there was a LOT!!!). Put in a 60-40 mix, don't worry ever again.... at least for two years anyway.

Thanks fellas. I did not try sticking anything in the drain as the "plug" did not come completely out.

I will try the Prestone flush next weekend.
