Question How Often Should I Change Synthetic Oil and Oil Filter?

I am getting ready to switch to Mobil 1 synthetic oil in my 04 Tacoma and was wondering how often I need to change the oil and the oil filter (it will be a Mobil 1 filter). I have heard that the oil filter (even if it is a filter "designed for synthetic oil") should be changed every 3,000 or so miles, but the oil doesn't need to be changed until between 6,000-9,000 miles. Any suggestions or input?

There was a post on this a few days ago-about oil and a great site was given about oils and changes-take a look back.

If you go to mobil1.com they say that practice is NOT recommended and to follow the manufacture's oil change intervals. I believe all Toyota's are 5K or 6 months which ever comes first. Go to mobil1.com FAQ section for Q & A's

mobil1 will easily last under normal driving conditions for 15k. I have an '02 tacoma that gets changes every 10k on mobil1. if you want more info on synthetics you should visit the following sites:

oilstudy.spacebears.com
www.themotoroilsite.com

oh, and make sure to use the mobil1 m1-102 oil filter as well. easily one of the best on the market.
