Okay since I have inspected the linkage and know that the 4WD lever is working, I have eliminated that. I also dont think it could be the switches, because both would have to fail. Also the 4WD light will eventually turn on, and I think of a switch of either working, or not. that is also the way I feel about the relay. Once energized it works, it doesn't just start working anytime there after. As for the solenoids, I can here them working. So I believe I have a vacuum problem. That might explan the "laziness" going into 4WD. I am going to check the vacum connections. Lucky me huh.

That article covers it all. It should be required reading for all Toyota ADD owners.

Let us know what you find. My truck might be next and you might save me some headaches.

Good luck.

Thanks alot, I am really not looking forward to it. I think I will wait a few days, until it warms up past 8 degrees. It is supposed to be in the 40's in about 4 days. I will certainly let you know. thanks for all the help.

It is fixed. I made a visual check of the vacuum hoses for the ADD system. I then made sure the electrical components were okay. I was stumped because everything checked out. I then checked the vacuum at the VSV. It was very small, almost not noticeable. I then heard a hissing sound while in that area. I checked and found a vacuum line that had come off a T fitting. Once I hooked it back up the truck ran better, and the 4WD light comes on right away. Thanks for everyone's help. I cant emphasize how important it is to check all vacuum hoses. As I found out that a vacuum hose not related to the ADD system could cause that not to work. It is amazing that I didn't notice the vacuum leak earlier, however it was hidden. Needless to say I am very happy.
