help with offorad light wiring

my 92 pickup was wired for extra "offroad" as i call them lights that are to be mounted on the front bumper. I gues the previous owner had them on, and took them off when he sold it. It is all wired with switch and everything. Well, today i mounted 2 new APC offroad lights on the bumper, and did not hook them up yet. I unhooked the 3 wires going into the switch, and hooked them into a new switch that came with the APC lights. WEll, i guess the wiring hookups wust have been different from the old switch to the new. When i turned the switch to on, i heard a click sound come from the engine comp. and i quickly unhooked it. I then put the wires back into the old switch the way they were when it worked, and the switch didnt light up as it did before i heard the click. I opened the hood and checked the fuse between the + terminal from the batt. and a little black box where all the wires come into, and it was still good. I fiddled around with it a little, but it still didnt work. I had to leave and didnt get to finish checking it. Any suggestions to where the prob could be? Im gonna test the wires tomorow and see if i can find a prob. Im sure its at that box, but not 100%. Any other suggestions of where to check qould be helpful. If i cant find the prob, ill just re-wire the system with the wires provided by APC with the lights. (i can do that, but id just rather fix the old wiring,... its be easier)

thanks,

-Adam-

The click is probably a relay. Locate the relay, (by ear) as it would be central to the current wiring and you can trace from there.

ok, ill check it out. Im going to test some things with our tester and see if that little box is my problem. That could be the relay. I dont really want to test with the clicking too much... thats all i need, is a fried computer or something.

thanks,
