Anything to look out for on a 92' Pickup?

Hey guys, Im purchasing a 92 Toyota pickup, reg cab, 2wd, 5spd with the 22re. The truck has 47K original miles! Is there anything I should look out for? Ive looked it over and ran a paint meter over the truck. Its never been wrecked or had any paint work done to it, the paint is still real shinny! I checked the oil, no signs of water or anything on the dip stick or burn marks on it. Anything else I should look out for on the 22re?

Not really..

47k is a bit low, no rust either? Listen for timing chain rattle on startup which means you've got a stretched chain, bad tensioner, etc. Valves noisey? - easy fix. Oil on the motor?, see much?, any leaks?, cleaner motor with good seals is a good sign. Go through the gears, take it on the highway, does it drive straight?

Hey, thanks a lot for your reply! Yep, 47k, has all records and everything, not a bit of rust either. Gota love Florida and old guys that drive their trucks to the golf course twice a week. LOL I'll have to tell you about the valves later, Ill go out and start it when I get a chance. They may be a bit noisy, but nothing that caught my immediate attention. The engine bay is pretty darn clean, its got that, "no I havent been cleaned but managed to stay clean look" kinda look if you know what I mean. I.E. Someone didnt come in and wipe it down of oil or anything. But yeah, at 80mph it hums right a long straight as a arrow!

Here is a quick pic of it, sorry the camera sucks..lol

That is a sweet looking truck! With only 47k on the clock I'd jump on it. My girlfriend has a '91 w/145k, never had any problems with it. We change the oil every 3k, flushed the rad. once, and thinking about changing the tranny fluid before it hits 150k.

Good luck!

With 47K right now, you could drive that thing well into the next decade......

The biggest things i could tell you to look out for is definitely check the timing chain. The 22RE is notorious for replacements on the timing chain. Check the radiator for rottage and leaks, check the throttle body for buildup, and check the exhaust system from the manifolds back for leaks and rottage. Also, I would go ahed and make sure that no O2 sensors are bad. It would throw a code if they were, but with the age of the truck, there's a chance you might have to replace them sometime soon down the road. I think the last common problems of our trucks is an issue with the accelerator spring. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but my truck had the issue and i was told by the guy that fixed it that it is pretty common on our trucks. You might research that one further..
