Clutch Pedal Freeplay??

hey everyone im new here and i have a question for yall. Ok i have a 89 4x4 pickup with the 22RE and 5 speed manual, and btw, it has 166450 miles. In 3rd and Fourth Gears the clutch seems to slip under acceleration. I was wondering if there is any cheap fix for it, such as adjusting pedal freeplay, to get a little more life out of it. (im in high school so i dont have much money to spend!) Any help would be appreciated!!

Check Greasygreg's response to the "clutch problem?" thread. I think it applies here, too.

Sounds like the clutch disc is used up. The disc is not expensive but, the labor to install is significant. How are your mechanical skills? This is not a complex job, just a bit envolved. You will need a fair amount of equipment to do this alone or access to some faciltiy that does. This would be a good auto shop project.

i have an update. Ok i was driving to shop class today and i shifted into 3rd and punched it pretty good. It wasnt to the floor but about 3/4 and much to my suprise... it DIDNT slip! It only slips every now and then and i know im not riding the clutch! So i asked my shop teacher and he said it might be my slave cylinder. So im wondering if its actually my clutch, or just the slave and how hard is it to change a slave cylinder? All the help has been greatly appreciated!!!

slave cylinder is on the outside of the tranny have a buddy press the clutch in and out a few times while you locate the part tha moves on the tranny its a cheap part and if you can bleed brakes you can replace it. you bleed it the same way.
