22r freshly rebuilt, OVERHEAT/ Blown HeadGasket?

I just fully rebuilt my 22r carb. motor from my '86 truck. I used my dad's old '85 head that was rebuilt about 500 miles before it threw a rod. I had to replace the #1 intake valve, but other then that it seemed like a good head. Upon start up it ran fine, but after a short bit of driving it started to over heat. I flushed out the cooling system and found a good amount of what could be best described as small rocks in the bottome of the radiator (i'm assuming these were deposits that were loosened up in the water jacket, and there was oil in the coolant. It would boil over just about when the thermostat should be opening up. I'm planning on cleaning out the radiator, but my bigger concern is the oil in the water and vice versa. I did a compression test and found that all 4 cylinders came up to 150psi. but #2 came up slightly slower then the other three. When I pulled the head, I found lots of coolant in the oil, but no obvious blown head gasket....
What's going on?????
I'm thinking i might have multiple problems....
-I'm definitely going to clean out the radiator and flush the cooling system again.
-I'm going to have my '86 head fully rebuilt and try putting it back on.
-I'm going to have my torque wrench recalibrated to make sure the bolts are all at the 58 ft. lbs.

-----What other options do I have, or what do you think the ultimate problem was/is? Oh yeah, all four piston tops had oily coolantly stuff caked on the tops of them....Did i just have a bad head gasket, or perhaps my torque wrench is way off, but it seems to at least be close. Are the '85 and '86 heads interchangeable?

Thanks in advance for any help.
-Chris Matthews

those are nice alfas. I would like to have a GTV someday, unfortunately I don't have my spyder anymore.

Yeah, I'm having a machine shop check out the head, and I'm having the radiator flushed, so hopefully these will solve my problems.
thanks for the reply,
chris

One thing that i can think of when situtaion like this happens, If evrything was installed right maybe compression was too hight that work that has been done to the heads have pass the limit. One example is when the heads have been milled passss the limit will give too much compression for your stock engine which can create blown head gaskets and over heating problems. A good machine shop should know if any head (s) have be worked on, or still have enough material left to recondition your heads. This is only a thought I m not too familiar with Toyotas Im a Mustang addict and have learned from past experienced on 5.0 engines Good luck Pepecrower

thanks for the advice..but i think i figured it out. the two big plugs on top of the head were found to be loose. I have no idea why they were loose, i've never touched them, but I hope that this was the source of my problems. I should have it back up and running by friday night.
