Exclamation Can't Drive 40

Hello.
My timing belt recently broke while I was driving my truck home. For reference it is an '89 Toyota Pickup w/ a 5spd. and a V6. After replacing the timing belt my truck will barely go past 40. To get up to 50 I would need a very long stretch of road. It feels like I'm driving a tractor, it's very loud, but I'm not going fast at all. I don't have much experience with engine maintenance, so I am sort of out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful day.

Normally the idler bearings seize and have to be replaced with the timing belt and usually the water pump fails too:

sounds like timing is retarded either on the ignition (distributor) , valves,( belt not aligned properly) or both , maby a plug wire crossed or on the wrong cylinder. you have to have the # 1 cylinder at tdc (top dead center) and the cam shaft (shafts) pulleys aligned tdc as well. then you need to time the distributor. not sure if the v6 is interferance?

Thank you very much for the input. It looks as though I have a few things I need to try. I'll get back to everyone if it works or doesn't work. Thanks again.
