Arrow suggestions for a n00b

As stated in my introduction to this forum, i am in search of a toyota truck for the price of 5000 dollars or less. i'm focused on the small p/u rather than the T100 but will consider either. what i'm here to ask is what year(s) and/or engine(s) are good in the sense of reliability. i am definetly not going for power nor offroading. in fact i'm a bit concerned about gas mileage due to my commute. 5 speed preffered. any suggestions?

Look for a 89 to 94 toyota pickup or a tacoma. The 4 cyl. engines are practically bulletproof.

thanks for the advice. one other question: can a 2wd p/u be lifted to be at factory 4x4 height using 4x4 OEM parts? i do not see why this could not work, but just checking to see if there's anything special to worry about.

I saw once in a 4x4 magizine my cousin had they acually had a suspension kit for the 2wd pickup but basicly what they have for 2wd pickups is body lift kit. The reason why you dont see hardly any suspension lift or drop kits for the 2wd pickup because the front suspension has torsion Bars. to lower the Truck you loosen the torsion Bars to Pick the Truck up you tighten the Bars. I tighten mine to put my P235 14R Alterrain Tires on my Pickup.

My 22R pickup had amazing gas mileage, better than my 4Runner 22RE,but that could be because of the obvious weight difference, power options and larger tire size.
